Calves Workout

I always have people ask me how to get big calves. I build my calves differently than any other muscle. The reason for this is that we use our calves every time we walk so calves are endurance muscles.

The most important calf exercise is standing calf raises this works you gastrocnemius your biggest calf muscle. Using a smith machine work the best, get a block or platform to stand on or use weight plates.

As supplemental exercises do seated calf raises to work your soleus calf muscle. Also you can lift your calves higher without shoes so consider doing it without shoes. I also like doing them while going up steps if you feel the burn it is working.

The burn is from the lactic acid build up in your legs. Calves take a long time to build up, but if you do standing calf raises until you feel the burn a few times a week you will see results within a few weeks.

personally i find weighted ( plates in a backpack ) raises on the side of my bath tub work great.

I'm now up to 60kg in a pack that's only rated for 40kg luckily it still hasn't ripped. Forgot to mention i'm doing one leg at a time.
